Nursery

I had so much fun getting this nursery ready for Baby P!

This is a dresser from Pier I that my husband had in college, I painted the wood (left the wicker alone) a glossy white and added new knobs from Lowe's. I started with Kilz white, oil-based primer then followed that with several thin coats of glossy white trim paint. I used a clear, water based sealant on the top of the dresser since I'd be using it as a changing table.

Bright book shelves filled with books, pictures, toys and gifts from friends and family.

This gorgeous wool rug from Land of Nod was a gift from my Mom. You can see I also used the space under the bed for storage with some white bins from Wal Mart.

The chair is from Ikea, the cushion was a natural, off-white color but I took out the foam and bleached it a bright white (it's definately more white in person than it shows up in the photo). The bedside table and stool are from Target kid's line. The curtains are simple white cotton duck, they're actually a little short for these windows but I like the airy feel. The curtain rods are simple white as well.

Target lamp and shade, the clock I picked up at Hobby Lobby.

This is a Jenny Lind crib, I was crazy about the vintage style and feel. It's just like the one my Mom had when we were little but without the drop side. Safety first :). I ordered it from Giggle.com. I found the adorable bumper on Etsy. I was going to make my own, but was in the hospital on bedrest so I was thrilled to find this one. Fun, unisex color and a geometric print.

I've seen flashcard clothelines all over blogland, but decided to do one with Afrikaans alphabet flashcards since that's my husband's first language. Funny thing was that two of the five cards were the same in English- "Ink" and "Tent." I used cotton piping for the thick clothesline, backed the cards with bright scrapbook paper from Michael's and covered the clothespins with scraps of the same paper.

This is the frame collage over P's changing table. There are some photos, a fabric letter "P," a shadowbox filled with hospital mementos and P's handprint, a page from an old-fashioned kids book, some music from a children's piano book and a few lines from one of my favorite hymns.

This is P's shadowbox. I got it at Hobby Lobby 50% off. It was backed with black velvet so I put a bright fabric scrap over that and put all his little mementos on top. Please excuse the clumsy photoshopping of his birthday and full name. That weight of 3 lb. 13 oz. is not a typo, my baby was a preemie, which makes the next framed item even more meaningful to us.

This is a page from a fun calendar with illustrations from old fashioned children's books. I put brightly colored scrapbook paper behind the page. There are lots of things that I could still improve upon, but this is my first nursery and I'm excited about changing things as P gets bigger. More to come!
